History of Hip-Hop

The UVA Music Arts Board presents Grammy Award-winning producer, DJ, Lecturer, and Social Activist 9th Wonder. Patrick Denard Douthit (b. 1975 in Winston-Salem, NC) began his career as the main producer for the group Little Brother and has since worked with such acclaimed artists as Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige,Murs, Erykah Badu, Ludacris, Talib Kweli, and Rapsody. He served as Hip-Hop Fellow at Harvard University in 2012, where he continues his residency at the W.E.B. DuBois Institute while also serving as an adjunct professor at Duke University. This public lecture on the History of Hip-Hop will serve as the culmination to his week-long artist residency at the University of Virginia. Do not miss this historic event, March 31st, 1:00pm, in the Rotunda Dome Room.

Come celebrate the finale of Grammy-winning Producer 9th Wonder's residency at UVA at The Jefferson Theatre downtown starting at 8PM on Saturday, 4/1. Admission is FREE and 9th Wonder will be DJing, so get ready to hit the dance floor to the tunes of this world renowned producer who is responsible for producing some of the greatest hip-hop tracks of this generation, including Destiny's Child and Mary J. Blige!

Student Music Feedback Session 2

This Spring, the Music Arts Board will be bringing acclaimed hip-hop producer 9th Wonder (Destiny’s Child, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole) to UVA for a week long residency. Part of the week includes two student feedback sessions (March 27th and 28th at 8PM), where student producers get to show their work to 9th Wonder and get professional advice on the tracks. After getting the feedback early in the week, there will be a performance at the end of the week (March 31st, 8PM) in which producers can show off their hard work.
