Arts in odd places: matter
Each year, the students at the University of Virginia pool their money together to bring an exceptional artist or amazing art event to UVA Grounds and beyond through our student run, UVA Arts Board Committee. This money is passed each year between Drama, Music and Visual Studio art departments and past artists have included Isaac Stern, Bread and Puppet Theatre, Italo Scanga, Agnes Denes, Meredith Monk, and others. This year, in collaboration with the Visual Studio Art Program, the students have invited artist and Art in Odd Places founder & director, Ed Woodham to help us oversee: Art in Odd Places 2018: MATTER in Charlottesville. Art in Odd Places has placed visual and performance art in unexpected public spaces in NYC and beyond since 2005.
Projects are visual/installation, performative actions, audios, projections, choreographies, workshops, presentations, and other ideas. Some key words: Substance. Situation. State of Affairs. Problem. Content. Text. Complication. Material. Happening. Importance. Experience. Atomic.
AiOP MATTER will take place on Thursday, April 5, 2018 on the grounds of the University of Virginia and Friday, April 6, 2018 on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville (West Main Street from 2nd to 5th Streets).
